Electronic Filing Information Returns

Filing information returns (EIR) are usually filed with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) when it is time to file your annual tax return. If you are self-employed, or have an LLC, S-Corp, or Corporation, the IRS has a different procedure for determining when you are required to file EFRFS. Learn more about this company here.

EFRFS are filed annually and do not include the quarterly or monthly information that is required of you by many other means. It will show if you need to pay taxes due, the total amount that you owe, and the tax year, the year that you made the return. The return can be sent electronically or in paper. If you file electronically, you must send the electronic return to the IRS.

You must print out the electronic form, if you want the IRS to process it electronically. If you send it in paper form, then you may not receive the information you requested. It depends on the state that the return was filed in, and if you live there or if the company has its headquarters in the same state.

Most EFRFS are based on a calendar year, not a calendar month. You can find all the information that you need to fill out your EFRFS online at this website.

If you have a large business, like a corporation, then you may be required to file EFRFS. You may be asked to file it on or before April 15 of the year you make your return, or if you file electronically then the filing may be postponed until April 15 of the next year. You may also be asked to file electronically if you have an LLC, S-Corp, or Corporation, and the business is not registered for a federal tax status. If you are self-employed and do not have an LLC, S-Corp, or Corporation, then you should request the filing information returns form from the IRS. You can find this form online at their website.

You can receive filing information returns by mail. You should check this with the IRS. If you are unable to receive your electronic or paper forms electronically, then you may want to call the IRS for assistance. They can provide you with help or tell you what you need to do.

You may not be allowed to use an electronic format to send the filing information returns because of security reasons. In that case, you can choose to send them in paper. There are a number of software companies that will help you do this, such as, Kroll Ontrack or Efile.

The IRS will send you your filing information returns if you have a EFRFS and you are still unable to receive the electronic format. If you choose to receive your returns electronically, then you should consider sending it electronically and wait until they arrive and print them out.
